Astronomy Talk on 'Imagine Black Hole Shadow' by Dr Kevin Koay

Dear All,

Do you still remember the first image of black hole that was captured three months ago? If not, come and join us for a talk on the "First Image of the Black Hole Shadow" that will be presented to you by Dr. Kevin Koay Jun Yi.

Dr Koay obtained his PhD in Astrophysics from the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, Curtin University in 2013. He was a Post-Doctorial Researcher at Dark Cosmology Centre, Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen from 2013 until 2016. He is currently a Post - Doctorial Fellow at Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics, ASIAA. His research interests are the active galactic nuclei, time domain radio astronomy, interstellar scintillation and scattering. He has also published a number of academic papers on radio astronomy. Ever since it was released by astronomers this year, the first black hole image had been featured on the front pages of newspapers and circulated widely on social media. The speaker will share the story of how more than 200 scientists and engineers from all over the world worked together for many years to achieve this groundbreaking feat. The speaker will also show how this image has impacted not only our understanding of the Universe but also popular culture as well. After the talk, the participants will also be brought to the RM 2/- public parking area to have stargazing activity before we call it a day (weather permitting). The "Stars in the Night Sky" will be shared during the stargazing activity.
